Windsor Hotel is located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya on Sir Jayathilake Mawatha, right opposite the police station.

Whichever mode of transport you chose, the drive up to Nuwara Eliya is very scenic and offers great views of the tea and forest covered hill - country. To reach Nuwara Eliya, you have the following options:

By car:
You can reach Nuwara Eliya in about 5 hours from Colombo. There are two alternative routes: One leads through Avissawela and Hatton, the other goes via Kegalle and Kandy. If you are coming from the South or the East, head for Badulla and then follow the road to Nuwara Eliya.

By bus:
There are frequent buses from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. The fast intercity buses are the best choice. They take about 3 hours from Kandy. Intercity buses from Colombo take about 6 - 7 hours. Nuwara Eliya is well - connected to many other bus routes. For details, please check your guidebook, ask the locals, or contact us for travel advice.

By train:
Nuwara Eliya does not have its own train station. The nearest station is Nanu Oya, about 9km along the road towards Hatton. Trains reach Nanu Oya from Kandy, Colombo and Badulla. From Nanu Oya, either take a bus to Nuwara Eliya bus stand or hop a taxi / three wheeler directly to Windsor Hotel.

The Kandy to Nanu Oya train route is one of the most scenic in the country. But it takes at least 4 - 5 hours. A faster option from Colombo is to take the train to Kandy and then continue by intercity bus to Nuwara Eliya. To check train schedules and travel times, please visit:

By plane:
SriLankan Air Taxi offers flights from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya. The flight takes only 30 minutes and is a great option if you are tight on time or find it difficult to handle windy roads. The twin otter planes land on Lake Gregory, which is only a 10 minutes' drive from Windsor Hotel.
