ABOUT WINDSOR HOTEL

Windsor Hotel was built in the 1980's by Rita and Daya Fernando. What they knew then still holds true today. Nuwara Eliya is the perfect place to experience the beauty of Sri Lanka's famous hill country.

The hotel offers 49 rooms and has been owned and managed by the Fernando family ever since it was opened in 1987. You can find the family member's personal touch throughout the house in the carefully selected antique furniture, the beautiful crochet work in the rooms or the many paintings - done by local artists and friends of the family - that are decorating the house.

Windsor Hotel is the ideal choice for independent travelers, families with children or people on a business - trip. Its central location means that you can explore many of Nuwara Eliya's attractions on foot. The clean air and the cool climate make activities here even more pleasant and offer a refreshing contrast to the tropical heat of the low - lands. All major shops and markets, as well as the Nuwara Eliya bus stand, are just around the corner.

Surrounded by vast tea estates, lush forests, misty hills and sky - blue lakes, Nuwara Eliya is a small and friendly town dotted with flower gardens and old - fashioned country mansions of the British era. Within walking distance of the Windsor Hotel is the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club which spreads over 90 acres and has a history of over 100 years. This challenging 18 hole golf course attracts players from all over the country.

Other attractions in and around town include Gregory Lake, the Haggala Botanical Gardens, Queen Victoria Park, with its huge children's playground, Galways' Land Bird Sanctuary, Horton Plains National Park, Adam's Peak and of course the many tea estates and factories, some of which are open to visitors.
